Population and Its Attributes
highA population is a group of individuals of the same species living in a defined area at a given time, capable of interbreeding and sharing common resources. Population attributes are measurable features of the group, not of a single individual.
When asked for population attributes, name the attribute and add what it indicates. For age pyramid questions, connect the shape with expanding, stable or declining population.
Exponential and Logistic Population Growth
highPopulation growth models describe how population size changes with time. Exponential growth occurs when resources are unlimited, while logistic growth occurs when resources are limited and population size approaches carrying capacity.
For graph questions, mention curve shape, resource condition and carrying capacity. For equations, define every symbol and connect it to biological meaning.
Life History Variation and Reproductive Trade-Offs
highLife history variation refers to differences in survival and reproductive strategies among organisms, including when they reproduce, how often they reproduce, and how much energy they invest in each offspring.
Use the word trade-off in answers and connect number of offspring with size, care and survival probability.
Population Interactions in Communities
highPopulation interaction is the effect that individuals of one species have on individuals of another species when they live together in a community. The interaction may benefit, harm or have no major effect on either species.
For interaction questions, write the effect on both species using +, -, or 0, then add a specific example.
Adaptations and Responses to Abiotic Factors
highAdaptation is a morphological, physiological or behavioural feature that improves an organism's survival and reproduction in a particular environment. Organisms also respond to stressful conditions by regulating, conforming, migrating or suspending activity.
Always pair an adaptation with its environmental challenge and survival advantage, such as desert water scarcity or cold-climate heat conservation.
